Rise and Fall of The Persian Empire ALINNE
Rise
Most of the credit of the rise of the Persian Empire was due to the first Achaemenid Emperor, Cyrus the Great. He founded Persia after he united the Medes and the Persians to build a great Empire. He came to power in 559 BC and thanks to his military and political genius ruled the largest empire in the ancient world. His people called him father and even people he defeated called him a "worthy ruler and lawgiver". He brought different architectural possibilities and built the Capitol City of Pasargadae. In 530 BC he conquered Babylonians and considered himself a liberator of people from Babylonian ruler. He also freed the Jews from Babylonia and believed in letting people have their religion and culture. Under Cyrus it extended extended from the Indus through to Egypt and the Mediterranean.In 530 BC he died in battle. After, his son succeeded him and later a distant cousin, a brilliant general came to power of the Persian Empire, Darius the Great. With him even more land into modern Iran, Pakistan, parts of central Asia and northern India was conquered. His engineers contributed to make grand architectural structures and engineering advancements.Also under his reign built his own capitol, Persepolis.
Fall
Then he and other rulers that came after him died and Persia didn't have a "strong hand" and as a result, various problems led to Persia's decline and fall. For one thing, weak rulers led to numerous provincial revolts, especially in Egypt. Then the provincial satraps became more unruly , which added to Persia's problems . (Satraps were leaders/ administrators in provinces). The taxes became heavier, lead waged war on each other, caused revolts and lead to economic depression. Also the Persian Kings began to hoard gold and silver which created more economic problems.
